Re: See how long/large/tall letters .. Gal 6:11

Wow, that was a really quick reply! Ben then ironically goes on to point to 2 Thessalonians, a letter which most scholars accept as forged. Do you think it was forged? It is fine to stay undecided because one should not set an opinion in stone or in a rush. In 2 Cor 12:7, he (or a forger?) writes: a...

See how long/large/tall letters .. Gal 6:11

If I may troll a little... ἴδετε (π)ηλἰκοις ὑμῖν γράμμασιν ἔγραψα τῆ ἐμῆ χειρί see how ____ you letters write my own hand Case 1: (unlikely) Suppose it is letters as in messages on pieces of papyrus. Explanation A: Paul wrote several long and emotional letters to the Galatians, of which only the las...

Re: Early Christian quotes from the bible

If a biblical quote is in greek, it is usually in Thesaurus Linguæ Græcæ , a little bit of which is free. I am not sure if their license agreement allows one to include any context. Also, since they suggest the texts themselves are copyrighted, I take that to mean they differ from the original becau...

Re: Early Christian quotes from the bible

JStor's concept seems to be the answer to my second question and they have some interesting journals in Register & Read. Their license agreement, however, makes their free offering to the public resemble the free offering of cheese that some people benevolently provide to mice through the concep...

Early Christian quotes from the bible

I am confused. Oo Surely there must be some web site or book that list quotes (and possibly allusions) from the bible by people in the first few centuries, the way it was written in whatever manuscript it was preserved in and with a little context when possible. There is e-Catena , but the text of t...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

Thank you both for very well researched contributions! (one conservative and one speculative but still) TWTY-Admin, I believe you will want to edit away a few things from that post Dec 19 and try to figure out what went wrong. Hepzibah is right in that it is most important to be kind, and we have to...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

There is a story from 4th century Romania (Moesia) which shows a non-compromising application of Paul's recommendations in 1 Cor 8:9-13, that a Christian should not appear to partake in idolatry by eating meat associated with it. It is the story of Sava (or Saba). Some Gothic leaders pressed the Chr...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people." -- Jer 31:33. Do you believe this prophecy was fulfilled ...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

Verse 15 of Corinthians 7 The Mosaic law regulated matters in the nation of Israel, just like other nations have their own laws. Trying to follow the laws of several nations would overwhelm us with regulatory burden and impair our service of Yahuweh. Yet many Jews and Christians have tried just tha...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

I can't help but wonder if Paul wasnt printed in every Bible, if the Jews would come to see the truth about Messiah. This seems to be the nitty gritty. Could you argue against the inclusion of Paul's letters without attributing offensive opinions to him? For example: In 1 Corinthians 7 Paul states ...

Re: The Fig Tree

Is it this law you have in mind? When thou layest siege unto a city many days, to fight against it, to capture it, thou dost not destroy its trees to force an axe against them, for of them thou dost eat, and them thou dost not cut down — for man's is the tree of the field — to go in at thy presence ...

Re: 'No need to reply'

Such messages have usually spelling errors but this one seems to have been written by an eloquent one. Just look at his technique! First, he seems to have sat down noting your characteristics and raisons d'être for this site: truth, ministry, competence in hebrew & greek and (good) judgement. Th...

Re: Was Paul a lawbreaker Part 3

A good speech! It must have felt very convincing. To balance it a little bit: So it doesn’t make any sense that Paul would be telling other people, you know you don’t have to keep this day anymore, when he was keeping it and all the church was keeping it and all the apostles where keeping it and all...

Re: How would you like a general purpose bible to be divided

I like the idea of putting the verse-numbers in the margin! Is there some particular reason to ignore the toledots and how about references to time? e.g. "And it came about in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah the king of Israel that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz the king of Judah became king...

How would you like a general purpose bible to be divided?

Should... ... the present system with OT verses based on masoretic cantillation marks be preserved, reformed or ignored? ... the present division into chapters be reformed or ignored? ... Mose's book be split in five? ... Genesis be split according to toledoth or according to suitable chapter-length...

Re: General Yahushua Questions

I see, god with lowercase g is a bit uncommon in English as many understand it to have the same meaning as God with upper-case G. When I searched for 'god' on Wikipedia, I was surprised of being redirected to 'God'. The North-germanic language I target with my translation does not seem to have a wor...

Re: General Yahushua Questions

It seems 'God' is referred to frequently in bibles as a translation of elohim , ha elohim , el , theos and ho theos . What is actually meant by "God" with upper-case G? Is it the world's sole creator? Is it the task of a bible translator to determine when elohim or theos means Yahuwah, a d...
