Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

Hello Stephen, The full sentence of Matthew 28:1 would render like; “Late (οψε) more-over (δε) sabbaths (σαββατων) to the (τη) twilighting-up (επιφωσκουση) into (εις) one of (μιαν) sabbaths (σαββατων) Mary (μαρια) Magdalene (μαγδαληνη) and (και ) the (η) other (αλλη) Mary (μαρια) observed (θεωρησαι...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

Hello Stephen, Under the context that you explain it I have difficulty reasoning a logic behind the resurrection phrase where amplified as ‘ Day One of Weeks and Shabbats ’ - used to refer to the first day of the 50 days leading up to Pentecost. As discussed previously the word ημερα as day and the...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

Please observe these quotes in the KJV; When it comes to interpreting something, it is never good to go off just an English translation. We have to look at the underlying Hebrew and Greek. Leviticus 23:39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

The main point regarding the time duration within the Passion event was prophesised by Yahushua - Himself as comparable to the sign of Jonah in MattithYah 12:39, 40. There it is stated twice in the majority of texts that the time duration in the tomb would be equivalent to 3 days and 3 nights. I do...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

That isn't the impression indicated by the translation of the Greek καθημαι, nor is it indicating bereavement on the part of the women, whom, as Luke says, went away from the tomb to prepare their previously bought spices. What MattithYah is indicating is that the women were sitting down, watching a...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

Actually, I think you've found a translational error in my rendition of Marcus 16:1. as the Greek verb for "to buy" (αγοραζω) is in the aorist tense, I should have the word "had" before "bought", indicating that they had already purchased spices/oils/ointment previously...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

Hello Stephen, On the point of translating from exegesis alone how do you account for the resurrection event ocurring three days after the crucifixion? MattithYah 27:62, 63 “But nevertheless, the next day, which is and exists as the day after the Preparation day of Friday , the high and chief pries...

Hi Will - I couldn't quite see a point in your current posts. Would you care to elaborate a bit as to what's being said?

Re: DSS transcriptions

'tis all looking good so far, Don :)

When you're done, I can host them on TWTY if you'd like (although I know they'll be quite a ways away yet :P) :)

William Tyndale

I've been doing a lot of reading regarding William Tyndale recently, and I thought a topic concerning him and his works is a necessity. Here're a few videos, books and other websites regarding him and his work: Fires of Faith: Martyrs for a Book William Tyndale: A Man with a Mission William Tyndale:...

Re: Saturn worship

Having had time to read the PDF and look up all the verses, I completely concur with Rob. It appears that Troy should've really gone on and read Exodus 31:17 where Yahuweh says, It [the Sabbath] is a sign forever between Me and the people of Israel that in six days Yahuweh made the heaven and the ...

Dead Sea Scrolls Online - Google Publishes 5 of the Scrolls

Looks like they're finally on the way :) http://dss.collections.imj.org.il/ These are different to the Dead Sea Scrolls Transcriptions you'll see on TWTY. Google obviously has a lot more money than I do, so they can take actual high-quality digital photographs of the scrolls, although their Terms of...

Re: The rendering of The Sacred Name

Thanks for the list of verses there, WBF. I'll check the DSS to see which of those verses are extant, and which have Yahuweh where the Masorites put Adonai instead :)

Re: Was Shaul really know as Paul?

The oldest manuscript to contain Acts 13:9 is Papyrus 45, a manuscript dated to around 200 CE. Unfortunately, it's quite fragmentary, so the whole of verse 9 isn't extant. However, the following words are: [κ]αι Παυλος, πλησθεις ΠΝΣ αγιου, και ατενισας ε[ις] / [k]ai paulos, plestheis PNS hagiou, kai...

Re: The rendering of The Sacred Name

YT is quite right. Unfortunately, neither Psalm 110 or 111 is extant amongst the DSS. However, the Greek Septuagint has "Εἶπεν ὁ ΚΣ τῷ ΚΩ μου Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου" ("Said Yahuweh to the Master my, 'Sit from right My' "), the ΚΣ and ΚΩ being placeholders for Yahuweh's name, or mean...

Re: Acts 20:7: The First Day of the Week, or a Sabbath?

TWTY-Admin, I tried to find where I had gotten the Text from so that I could give the source name (as the PDF did not give the name of the translation), but I could not find where I had found it yesterday. If you know where it can be found please add the URL to this post for others edification. Per...

Re: The rendering of The Sacred Name

A worthy task if I ever saw one. If someone does have such a list, could I have permission to put it up on TWTY? This would obviously require someone to have gone through all the Dead Sea Scrolls and checked each and every instance of Yahuweh's name in them, and then compared it to the Masoretic tex...
